Millennium Development Goals Report - Turkey 2005

After the declaration Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adopted by the representatives of 189 nations including 147 heads of state and government at 55th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York on 6-8 September 2000, Turkey sought the ways to assess its situation regarding the MDGs. For the preparation of MDG Report, the government of Turkey cooperated with UN country office. The report was prepared by the experts of State Planning Organization.After the fist draft of the report, UN country office contributed to the reports via its comments. The report consists of eight parts. Each part explains one of eight goals.There are four sub-tittles under each part.

These parts are Status and Trends, Relevant Policies, Benchmarks and Monitoring Capabilities and Challenges. Each part of the report also consists of the indicators regarding the relevant goal. The report shows that Turkey overall is well on the way to meet and even exceed the goals by 2015. However, continued efforts to address Goal 1 (Poverty), Goal 3 (Gender Equality), Goal 4 (Child Mortality), and Goal 5 (Maternal Mortality) for the well-being of Turkish population are necessary.
